Murillo Eger struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Walmyr da Rocha didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Caetetu. 17 minutes into the match, Maia AD's goal looked a bit too open when Chicão Costa came free, but Walmyr da Rocha reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Chicão Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Walmyr da Rocha having to interfere. In the 24th minute, Henrique Cordeiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chicão Costa in the 30th minute of play forced Maia AD's goalkeeper Walmyr da Rocha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Maia AD's Walmyr da Rocha played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chicão Costa in the 31st minute of play. 35 minutes into the game, Tony Dias was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Caetetu's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Maia AD the free kick. In the 35th match minute, Caetetu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tony Dias to maneuver through the defense. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Henrique Cordeiro was the one to do the kick off. Caetetu's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Henrique Cordeiro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Gildo Cabral stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Henrique Cordeiro's shot from short distance in the 60th minute. Gildo Cabral didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nelson de Lara went, in the 62nd minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. A hard shot by Celsinho Pirani from long distance, 72 minutes into the match, got Walmyr da Rocha's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 74th minute, Jerônimo Peixoto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Murillo Eger sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Caetetu's Murillo Eger got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Maia AD's zone, Murillo Eger stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Walmyr da Rocha came out of the goal and Murillo Eger tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gildo Cabral showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Henrique Cordeiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Adelino Damião managed to get in a good position for a shot. Caetetu's supporters rose to their feet, but Adelino Damião was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Walmyr da Rocha breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Murillo Eger received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Walmyr da Rocha tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
