The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ramón Penha in the 3rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gil da Mata saved Assis FC from getting behind. The supporters of Suassurana AD booed when Assis FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Orlando Travassos didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jarbas Jacinto in the 9th minute of play forced Assis FC's goalkeeper Gil da Mata to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Assis FC getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Célio de Brito hit a great ball. After 17 minutes of play, Suassurana AD's Ramón Penha made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gil da Mata was left in no man's land by his defense there! A hard shot 24 in the game by Richard Linhares from a close distance when the talented Erivaldo Baptista managed to make a qualified save. Suassurana AD's players were relieved. Richard Linhares in the 27thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Thanks to some nice moves Richard Linhares could shoot a difficult shot in the 38th minute, which Erivaldo Baptista however easily saved by the left post. Jarbas Jacinto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Gil da Mata tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 58th minute, Gláuber Quadros made a precise shot to the right of Erivaldo Baptista. Suassurana AD's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. 67 minutes into the game, Gláuber Quadros was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Assis FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Suassurana AD the free kick. After 85 minutes, Célio de Brito mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Assis FC and the Suassurana AD players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 85th minute, Célio de Brito hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Assis FC's Gil da Mata proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save Assis FC from getting a goal against them. Ramón Penha's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gil da Mata read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 88th minute of play. If Jarbas Jacinto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
