The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ronaldão Guerra went to the wrong direction when Tomé Gaspar was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Ronaldão Guerra stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of José Pedro Ceresso's shot from short distance in the 8th minute. Egídio de Andrade fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronaldão Guerra having to interfere. Ronaldão Guerra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Egídio de Andrade, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. A collision led to Taquarassu getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Dé Valle hit a great ball. Elder Tasso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arenosa SC's José Pedro Ceresso got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Egídio de Andrade in the 38th minute of play forced Taquarassu's goalkeeper Ronaldão Guerra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. José Pedro Ceresso struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Ronaldão Guerra didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Arenosa SC. Dé Negri kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. An unexpected shot in the 43rd minute by Elder Tasso got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when José Pedro Ceresso stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ronaldão Guerra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Pedro Ceresso, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. When José Pedro Ceresso came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Arenosa SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that José Pedro Ceresso couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Arenosa SC's zone, Elder Tasso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Waldemar Luz came out of the goal and Elder Tasso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Duda Dias came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the Taquarassu fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Duda Dias couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Arenosa SC getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. André de Medeiros hit a great ball. Ronaldão Guerra made an important save on a dangerous shot by Egídio de Andrade in the 75th minute. Elder Tasso's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Waldemar Luz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 79th minute of play. Elder Tasso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Dé Valle fell near the penalty area in the 83rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Taquarassu's protests and gave Dé Valle a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Taquarassu's Dé Valle got a free kick in the 83rd minute. In the 88th minute, André de Medeiros hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 89th minute Elder Tasso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Waldemar Luz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ronaldão Guerra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from José Pedro Ceresso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Cássio Reis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Egídio de Andrade could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 96th minute of the match, but Ronaldão Guerra made a huge save. In the 96th minute, Arenosa SC's Egídio de Andrade dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-2. Arenosa SC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
