Douglas Ceresso started the match with the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luizinho Pitta in the 4th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Cacá Amaral saved Itapetininga SC from getting behind. Zézinho de Mendonça made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Douglas Ceresso in the 10th minute of play. In the 11th match minute, Itapetininga SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ademir Toscano to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 15th minute, Luizinho Pitta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Icaissara's supporters rose to their feet, but Luizinho Pitta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cacá Amaral breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Luizinho Pitta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cacá Amaral having to interfere. In the 19th minute Rômulo Cosme shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cacá Amaral saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luizinho Pitta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cacá Amaral having to interfere. Zézinho de Mendonça was out of position in the 26 minute of play, and Douglas Ceresso capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Douglas Ceresso really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Luizinho Pitta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 31 minutes into the game, Wilson Trancoso was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Itapetininga SC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Icaissara the free kick. A collision led to Itapetininga SC getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Wilson Trancoso hit a great ball. Icaissara's Paulo José Duarte couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Itapetininga SC. With a little luck, Icaissara's Zézinho de Mendonça got control of the ball when Pedrinho Marques tried to sneak it across the goal line. A hard shot 46 in the game by Wilson Trancoso from a close distance when the talented Zézinho de Mendonça managed to make a qualified save. Icaissara's players were relieved. After having played for 48 minutes, Douglas Ceresso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itapetininga SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Douglas Ceresso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Luizinho Pitta who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 54thth minute tested the skills of Cacá Amaral when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Pedrinho Marques sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Rômulo Cosme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Itapetininga SC's Wilson Trancoso got a free kick in the 61st minute. In the 66thth minute of the game Douglas Ceresso who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Icaissara's Zézinho de Mendonça was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 69th minute, Cipriano Queirós made a precise shot to the right of Zézinho de Mendonça. Icaissara's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. 79 minutes into the game, Icaissara's Luizinho Pitta nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Cacá Amaral made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Rômulo Cosme could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Cacá Amaral made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in Itapetininga SC's zone, Luizinho Pitta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cacá Amaral came out of the goal and Luizinho Pitta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luizinho Pitta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rômulo Cosme received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Cacá Amaral tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
