With an all-out effort, Getulina's Francisco Barros threw himself towards the right post 5 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Cássio Xavier, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 6 minutes into the match, Iguitu's goalkeeper Francisco Barros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Válter Neto. Válter Neto who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 9thth minute tested the skills of Francisco Barros when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 11 played minutes Iguitu got a freekick which was hit by Nando Barral. Getulina's Filipe Neves couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 12th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Iguitu. In the 17th minute, Gerson Valadares hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Chiquinho Velloso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Yan Velasco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Manfredo Pena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. A wasted opportunity for Iguitu. After 22 played minutes Getulina got a freekick which was hit by Gerson Valadares. Gil Ferraz's late challenge caught a Getulina's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gil Ferraz helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Iguitu getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Gil Ferraz hit a great ball. In the 27th minute of the match Filipe Neves sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Francisco Barros skillfully saved the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Iguitu's zone, Cássio Xavier stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Francisco Barros came out of the goal and Cássio Xavier tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Manfredo Pena struck a weak shot in the 31st minute. The audience was convinced that Cássio Xavier's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Francisco Barros was relentless in the 48th minute of the game. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
