The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute Armando Luz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Percy Zanette saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lauro Pitta kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Armando Luz in the 9th minute of play forced Potyrendaba SS's goalkeeper Percy Zanette to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Potyrendaba SS's Telmo Mendonça in the 11th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Norberto Lara was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Baetas through an amazing save. Telmo Mendonça received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Norberto Lara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Baetas's Armando Luz got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 18th minute Telmo Mendonça shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Norberto Lara saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 21st minute Eduardo Viana shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Percy Zanette saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Potyrendaba SS's Nuno Penha got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Potyrendaba SS's Percy Zanette played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jerônimo Veloso in the 28th minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, Potyrendaba SS's goal looked a bit too open when Armando Luz came free, but Percy Zanette reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 33 minutes, Telmo Mendonça managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Potyrendaba SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Telmo Mendonça was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Armando Luz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Baetas's supporters rose to their feet, but Armando Luz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Percy Zanette breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Percy Zanette showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Armando Luz, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. Norberto Lara took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nuno Penha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.

The wind increased when Telmo Mendonça made the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice moves Armando Luz could shoot a difficult shot in the 56th minute, which Percy Zanette however easily saved by the left post. The audience thought a goal was coming when Armando Luz got free with Percy Zanette in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Armando Luz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 60th minute of the match, but Percy Zanette made a huge save. In the 64th minute, Nuno Penha ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Norberto Lara was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. When Potyrendaba SS's Telmo Mendonça in the 67th minute got a chance for a shot 67th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jerônimo Veloso in the 98th minute of play forced Potyrendaba SS's goalkeeper Percy Zanette to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
