When Oscar Antunes fell near the penalty area in the 6th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Capoeiras's protests and gave Oscar Antunes a yellow card for diving instead. Paulinho Penha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Vítor de Godoy, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 13th minute, Carlos Fernando Ortiz left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. After a rather tough play, Povoacao's Luiz Paulo Paulista got a free kick in the 44th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Carlos Fernando Ortiz made a kick off. Arnaldo Tasso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zé Augusto Martins in the 59th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Capoeiras's zone, João Vítor de Godoy stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulinho Penha came out of the goal and João Vítor de Godoy tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 70th minute, Horácio Macedo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luizinho Veloso recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Zé Augusto Martins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 75th minute, Adolfo Toledo made a precise shot to the right of Arnaldo Tasso. Povoacao's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. 82 minutes into the match, Capoeiras's Adolfo Toledo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Arnaldo Tasso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Luizinho Veloso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 89th match minute, Povoacao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Paulo Paulista to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 90 minutes, Luizinho Veloso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Capoeiras's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luizinho Veloso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. João Vítor de Godoy succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-3 in the 93rd playminute. Arnaldo Tasso came out of the goal in the 98th minute to try and stop a shot by Capoeiras's Zé Augusto Martins. But to his dismay, Zé Augusto Martins quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-3.
