A collision led to Colegio getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Mateus de Medeiros hit a great ball. Mário Paraense took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Percival da Silva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luiz Paulo Teixeira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Júlio Cabral tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of America booed when Colegio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Enio Vidal didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 25th minute, Umberto Montenegro sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Colegio's Mário Paraense didn't even have to move. When Percival da Silva came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the America fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Percival da Silva couldn't finish the play. When Silvério da Rocha fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored America's protests and gave Silvério da Rocha a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, America's Silvério da Rocha got a free kick in the 35th minute. In the 40th match minute, Colegio was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vítor de Brito to maneuver through the defense. Umberto Montenegro took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 41st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Mário Paraense. Colegio's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Júlio Cabral made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelson Baptista in the 45th minute of play. Augusto Pires sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Augusto Pires stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of America booed when Colegio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Agenor Cruz didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Umberto Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot. America's supporters rose to their feet, but Umberto Montenegro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mário Paraense breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Augusto Pires in the 58th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mário Paraense saved Colegio from getting behind. After 61 minutes of play, America's Percival da Silva made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mário Paraense was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a defensive mix-up in Colegio's zone, Percival da Silva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mário Paraense came out of the goal and Percival da Silva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Augusto Pires sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Percival da Silva in the 71stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Mário Paraense, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Vítor de Brito hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Mateus de Medeiros hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. After 80 played minutes America got a freekick which was hit by Silvério da Rocha. 83 minutes into the match, Nelson Baptista had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Júlio Cabral. America's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nelson Baptista was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Mateus de Medeiros struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Júlio Cabral didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Colegio. In the 92nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Colegio's goalkeeper Mário Paraense, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luiz Paulo Teixeira in the 95th minute of play forced America's goalkeeper Júlio Cabral to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
