Delfim Santana fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aníbal Nunes having to interfere. 6 minutes into the match, Capinzal's goalkeeper Aníbal Nunes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rubinho Magalhães. In the 11th minute, Hélio de Sena left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Capinzal fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Thanks to some nice moves Rubinho Magalhães could shoot a difficult shot in the 15th minute, which Aníbal Nunes however easily saved by the left post. In the 22nd minute, Delfim Santana got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Rubinho Magalhães sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Hélio de Sena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Iuri Teles came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Capinzal fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Iuri Teles couldn't finish the play. Iuri Teles sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Iuri Teles's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Douglas Mello read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Tamarana's goalkeeper Douglas Mello, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Delfim Santana to make the kick off. Capinzal's Aníbal Nunes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rubinho Magalhães in the 51st minute of play. In the 56th minute, Hélder Urbano left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Tamarana fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Rubinho Magalhães took the ball and in the 64 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Aníbal Nunes. Aníbal Nunes dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. The supporters of Capinzal booed when Tamarana was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hélder Urbano didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 71 minutes Tamarana's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Chicão Tande who took care of the corner kick. Nilton Marinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Douglas Mello having to interfere. Hélio de Sena struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Douglas Mello didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Capinzal. 89 minutes into the match, Percy Meira had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Douglas Mello. Tamarana's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Percy Meira was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-3. Iuri Teles might have been able to make a better finish in the 94th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Douglas Mello. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Iuri Teles ran back to his position shaking his head. The Capinzal supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Capinzal would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
