A collision led to Caranapatuba SC getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Rômulo Mesquita hit a great ball. Ernesto Proença blasted a shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Flavinho Nunes having to make a save. Betão Palmeira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Flavinho Nunes having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Betão Palmeira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Torres's supporters rose to their feet, but Betão Palmeira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Flavinho Nunes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Torres's zone, Reynaldo Paulista stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Renatinho Couto came out of the goal and Reynaldo Paulista tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Betão Palmeira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Torres's Renatinho Varela got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Noel Bittencourt's late challenge caught a Torres's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Noel Bittencourt helped the player get up and apologised. In the 27th minute, Tales Travassos sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Caranapatuba SC's Flavinho Nunes didn't even have to move. After 30 played minutes Torres got a freekick which was hit by Amílton Favoretto. The audience was convinced that Reynaldo Paulista's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Renatinho Couto was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. Reynaldo Paulista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ernesto Proença got free with Flavinho Nunes in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Reynaldo Paulista recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Ramiro Garcia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When Reynaldo Paulista came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Caranapatuba SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reynaldo Paulista couldn't finish the play. Ramiro Garcia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Renatinho Couto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Caranapatuba SC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Torres the free kick. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. 81 minutes into the match, Torres's goalkeeper Renatinho Couto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ramiro Garcia. In the 87th minute, Ernesto Proença got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Betão Palmeira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Torres's Ernesto Proença got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
