The referee ignored Paulino EC's protests and gave Sebastião Linhares a yellow card for diving instead. In the 10th minute of the match Muqueca got a corner. Paulino EC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Eliézer Lopez ran over to the corner to take the kick. Lúcio Alves stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Francisco Alcântara's shot from short distance in the 15th minute. Flavinho Miranda's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gildo Vander read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. Gildo Vander showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Flavinho Miranda, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pedro Paulo Guedes got free with Gildo Vander in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 33 minutes of play, Muqueca's Eduardo Lira made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Lúcio Alves was left in no man's land by his defense there! Lúcio Alves didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eduardo Lira went, in the 40th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Francisco Alcântara to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Muqueca's Cássio Salgado got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Eliézer Lopez kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. If Francisco Alcântara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Through an outstanding action, after 66 minutes, Lúcio Alves successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 67th minute, Luís Gustavo Paiva hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Francisco Alcântara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Lúcio Alves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cássio Salgado kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. After having played for 73 minutes, Pedro Paulo Guedes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paulino EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pedro Paulo Guedes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 74th match minute, Muqueca was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zé Roberto Souto to maneuver through the defense. In the 79th minute Francisco Alcântara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lúcio Alves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 80 minutes into the game, Emerson Barral was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Paulino EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Muqueca the free kick. The supporters of Muqueca booed when Paulino EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emerson Barral didn't get a good kick on the ball. Francisco Alcântara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Lúcio Alves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 86th minute, Pedro Paulo Guedes made a precise shot to the right of Gildo Vander. Muqueca's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3. The Paulino EC fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Muqueca were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
