Agenor Albuquerque sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With his leg Cristóvão Souza managed to avoid a goal in the 14thth minute, when Riachuelo SS's Agenor Albuquerque fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Wanderson Barreto's late challenge caught a Paraibuna's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Wanderson Barreto helped the player get up and apologised. 27 minutes into the match, Paraibuna's goalkeeper Cristóvão Souza had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Agenor Albuquerque. Sílvio Ortiz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute of the match Carlos Rodrigues shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ernani Vander showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 35 minutes into the game, Agenor Albuquerque cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Cristóvão Souza was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Riachuelo SS's Ernani Vander played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sílvio Ortiz in the 41st minute of play. Ernani Vander showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sílvio Ortiz, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

After 53 minutes, Luiz Gustavo Mello mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Paraibuna and the Riachuelo SS players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 53 played minutes Paraibuna got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Gustavo Mello. Zacarias Bueno recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Zacarias Bueno fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristóvão Souza having to interfere. After having played for 62 minutes, Sílvio Ortiz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraibuna's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sílvio Ortiz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Agenor Albuquerque sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 71st minute, Doriva Bertassi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 72nd minute, Agenor Albuquerque left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Riachuelo SS fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Sílvio Ortiz might have been able to make a better finish in the 82nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ernani Vander. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sílvio Ortiz ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 91st minute, Sílvio Ortiz reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Ernani Vander. The goal made the score 2-1. Cristóvão Souza came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Riachuelo SS's Kaká Leal. But to his dismay, Kaká Leal quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Riachuelo SS had won after a very even match.
