The referee showed Elias Vieira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Canca booed when Caetetu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elias Vieira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Geovani Lima sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Geovani Lima recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Artur Hames to make the kick off. João Francisco Maia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Geovani Lima, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Sílvio Negri fell near the penalty area in the 56th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Canca's protests and gave Sílvio Negri a yellow card for diving instead. In the 56th minute, Sílvio Negri hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Valdo Toscano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ricardo Tróia in the 63rd minute. Ricardo Tróia who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 65thth minute tested the skills of Valdo Toscano when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 66 minutes into the match, Canca's goal looked a bit too open when Jaime Pinheiro came free, but João Francisco Maia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 92nd minute of the match Juarês Zanette sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Valdo Toscano skillfully saved the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paulo José Dante in the 94th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck João Francisco Maia prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 95 played minutes Canca got a freekick which was hit by Tadeu Cavalcante.
