The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 7th minute, Vassourinha's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Cipriano de Souza fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Nilton Nogueira charged in rather forcefully in the 8th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nilton Nogueira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Vassourinha booed when Marinho was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nilton Nogueira didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Betão Cabral in the 17th minute of play forced Marinho's goalkeeper Alex Breckenfeld to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 27th minute, one of Marinho:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Marinho. Ricardo Fernandez shot the penalty kick right outside the post. If Durvalino Amaral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Marinho's Nilton Nogueira got a free kick in the 31st minute. When Ediberto Bezerra came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Marinho fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ediberto Bezerra couldn't finish the play. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cipriano de Souza to make the kick off. 59 minutes into the game, Juvenal Brasil was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vassourinha's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Marinho the free kick. In the 59th minute, one of Vassourinha:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Vassourinha. In the 61st minute there was a penalty for Marinho. Claudinei Mota stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Dorian Terra. 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Durvalino Amaral in the 64th minute of play forced Marinho's goalkeeper Alex Breckenfeld to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dorian Terra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cipriano de Souza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gugu Marques kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cipriano de Souza in the 81st minute of play forced Vassourinha's goalkeeper Dorian Terra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alex Breckenfeld made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Durvalino Amaral in the 83rd minute of play. Durvalino Amaral fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alex Breckenfeld having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 93 minutes, Durvalino Amaral took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Alex Breckenfeld to make any attempt to save it. The Vassourinha players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Marinho from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
