Felippe Viana made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Clemente Freire showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luís Fabiano Hames in the 24th minute of the match. Aníbal Quadros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Donato Fontes charged in rather forcefully in the 26th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Donato Fontes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Donato Fontes kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. The supporters of Tipucu booed when Estrella was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Caco de Castro didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 35 minutes, Chicão Moraes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tipucu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Chicão Moraes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 37th minute, Aníbal Quadros got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Marco de Amaral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Dedé Rodrigues came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Tipucu fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dedé Rodrigues couldn't finish the play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Marco de Amaral was the one to do the kick off. Estrella's Felippe Viana proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save Estrella from getting a goal against them. Norberto Miranda received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Clemente Freire tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
