When the match had been going on for 8 minutes, Itamirim's Guga Breckenfeld got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Jorge Linhares. Michel do Vale took the ball and in the 12 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Hílton de Azevedo. Hílton de Azevedo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Jorge Linhares made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Décio Vergílio sent off a good shot on target. Hílton de Azevedo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Vidal, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. In the 28th minute, Jonathan Sampaio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers José Vidal in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hílton de Azevedo saved Itamirim from getting behind. After having played for 34 minutes, Décio Vergílio managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itamirim's supporters crossed their fingers, but Décio Vergílio was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jorge Linhares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Donatello Gerber in the 36th minute of play. In the 38th minute, Donatello Gerber got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jorge Linhares made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when Décio Vergílio sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Canapolis AD's José Paulo Paraíba got a free kick in the 41st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Canapolis AD's zone, Décio Vergílio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jorge Linhares came out of the goal and Décio Vergílio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Donatello Gerber might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jorge Linhares. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Donatello Gerber ran back to his position shaking his head. Donatello Gerber struck a weak shot in the 48th minute. Jorge Linhares didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Itamirim. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for José Vidal to strike the kick off in the second half. Michel do Vale fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hílton de Azevedo having to interfere. Jorge Linhares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Donatello Gerber in the 62nd minute of play. The attack was good, but when Donatello Gerber in the 66th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Jorge Linhares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Décio Vergílio in the 74th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Canapolis AD's zone, Luís Fábio Saraiva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jorge Linhares came out of the goal and Luís Fábio Saraiva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 79 minutes, Donatello Gerber managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itamirim's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
