Arthur Costa was a little too slow when Gugu Vieira got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 7th minute. The score was now 1-0. The supporters of Efigenia booed when Mendubim SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gilson Teles didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee gave Efigenia a penalty, 16 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Zé Augusto Coelho, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Mendubim SS's Gernando Sabóia. 1-1. Gugu Vieira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Arthur Costa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mendubim SS's Gernando Sabóia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Noel Mumbach in the 25th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hélder Andrade during the 26th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Hélder Andrade hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. The long shot by Gilson Teles in the 34th minute really tested Arthur Costa's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Gernando Sabóia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Fernando Paraibano in the 37th minute of play. After 45 played minutes Mendubim SS got a freekick which was hit by Gilson Teles. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gugu Vieira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 52 minutes of play, Mendubim SS's Gugu Vieira made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Arthur Costa was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of Mendubim SS booed when Efigenia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giovani Hermes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Zé Pedro Silveira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Giovani Hermes charged in rather forcefully in the 58th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Giovani Hermes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Efigenia's Giovani Hermes got a free kick in the 58th minute. Luiz Fernando Paraibano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gernando Sabóia having to interfere. Gernando Sabóia made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luiz Fernando Paraibano in the 66th minute. 68 minutes into the game, Mendubim SS's Zé Pedro Silveira nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Arthur Costa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. In the 71st minute, Noel Mumbach fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Zé Pedro Silveira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Arthur Costa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Efigenia's zone, Zé Pedro Silveira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arthur Costa came out of the goal and Zé Pedro Silveira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Gugu Vieira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mendubim SS's supporters rose to their feet, but Gugu Vieira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arthur Costa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Zé Pedro Silveira might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Arthur Costa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Zé Pedro Silveira ran back to his position shaking his head. Gugu Vieira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arthur Costa having to interfere. 96 minutes into the match, Mendubim SS's Zé Pedro Silveira sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Arthur Costa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Mendubim SS were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Efigenia for a fine match.
