The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Durvalino Ferraz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Ernesto de Senna tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ricardinho Rosa's late challenge caught a Tupandi's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ricardinho Rosa helped the player get up and apologised. Ernesto de Senna showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Geraldo Couto, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Cássio Branco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 24th minute Cássio Branco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacinto Cavalcante saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 24th match minute, Tupandi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Durvalino Ferraz to maneuver through the defense. In the 25th minute, Cássio Branco ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jacinto Cavalcante was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. After 36 minutes, Claudinei Bastos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Tupandi and the Pucuriu players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 37th match minute, Tupandi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Claudinei Bastos to maneuver through the defense. Jacinto Cavalcante made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cássio Branco in the 42nd minute of play. Geraldo Couto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ernesto de Senna having to interfere.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Geraldo Couto made a kick off. If Cássio Branco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 64 minutes, Cássio Branco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Pucuriu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cássio Branco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 74th minute the ball was on its way in behind Tupandi's goalkeeper Jacinto Cavalcante, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A hard shot 76 in the game by Cássio Branco from a close distance when the talented Jacinto Cavalcante managed to make a qualified save. Tupandi's players were relieved. In the 82nd minute, Cássio Branco fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Jacinto Cavalcante, passed just outside the right post. Cássio Branco's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jacinto Cavalcante read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 87th minute of play. Wilton Fontes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacinto Cavalcante having to interfere. Cássio Branco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Jacinto Cavalcante tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Durvalino Ferraz hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Pucuriu had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
