An unexpectedly hard shot by Silvinho de Brito in the 15th minute of play forced Riograndina SS's goalkeeper Rodriguinho Simão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eusébio Arósio kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. A hard shot by Ezequiel Saraiva from long distance, 22 minutes into the match, got Elias Seco's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. After a defensive mix-up in Itamogi's zone, Vitinho de Carvalho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Elias Seco came out of the goal and Vitinho de Carvalho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 25th minute, Dito Lara got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Arnaldo Pinho hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. Vitinho de Carvalho was extremely unlucky when he, in the 33rd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. If Silvinho de Brito had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Márcio Marquez's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rodriguinho Simão read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. In the 39th match minute, Riograndina SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Isaltino Lopez to maneuver through the defense. Rodriguinho Simão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Márcio Marquez in the 42nd minute of the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The Itamogi fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Elias Seco should have stopped the shot. In the 81st match minute, Riograndina SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Isaltino Lopez to maneuver through the defense. Elias Seco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dito Lara in the 84th minute of the match.
