Carlos Alberto de Amaral made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emerson Nunes in the 6th minute of play. In the 7th match minute, Buracao AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricardinho da Rocha to maneuver through the defense. After recieving a nice pass, Gremios's Raimundo Brito tried to score from far away in the 8th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. When Gil Macedo came up free with the goalie in the 15th minute, the Buracao AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gil Macedo couldn't finish the play. Carlos Alberto de Amaral showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emerson Nunes, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Buracao AD's Gil Macedo got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 24th minute, Belchior Loureiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 26thth minute of the game Chicão Figueiredo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Buracao AD's Tony de Barros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 28th match minute, Gremios was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by João Adolfo Lima to maneuver through the defense. With his leg Carlos Alberto de Amaral managed to avoid a goal in the 30thth minute, when Buracao AD's Gil Macedo fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Carlos Alberto de Amaral stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Emerson Nunes's shot from short distance in the 31st minute. If Emerson Nunes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Buracao AD's Tony de Barros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chicão Figueiredo in the 38th minute of play. 41 minutes into the game, Emerson Nunes recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Carlos Alberto de Amaral. Emerson Nunes showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Belchior Loureiro struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Tony de Barros didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gremios. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

A hard shot 53 in the game by Belchior Loureiro from a close distance when the talented Tony de Barros managed to make a qualified save. Buracao AD's players were relieved. Chicão Figueiredo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tony de Barros having to interfere. A collision led to Gremios getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Rubinho Batista hit a great ball. After 60 played minutes, Buracao AD's Dênis Penha shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Carlos Alberto de Amaral came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Buracao AD reached it. After 62 minutes, Chicão Figueiredo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gremios and the Buracao AD players grew even worse after the yellow card. Chicão Figueiredo hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. If Gil Macedo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 70th minute, Chicão Figueiredo fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Emerson Nunes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Carlos Alberto de Amaral tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Belchior Loureiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Carlos Alberto de Amaral took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gil Macedo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Chicão Figueiredo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Tony de Barros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 91 minutes, Chicão Figueiredo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gremios's supporters crossed their fingers, but Chicão Figueiredo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Afonso Viana fell near the penalty area in the 98th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Buracao AD's protests and gave Afonso Viana a yellow card for diving instead. Gremios were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Buracao AD to leave the ground with a draw.
