Aírton Botelho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Carlos Alberto de Amaral having to make a save. 21 minutes into the game, Jorge Gonçalves was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Inhomirim EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gremios the free kick. After 21 played minutes Inhomirim EC got a freekick which was hit by Jorge Gonçalves. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juarês de Barros in the 24th minute of play forced Gremios's goalkeeper Carlos Alberto de Amaral to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 25 minutes, Juarês de Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Inhomirim EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Juarês de Barros was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 32 minutes into the match, Gremios's goal looked a bit too open when Aírton Botelho came free, but Carlos Alberto de Amaral reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Falcão Rosado showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Chicão Figueiredo in the 35th minute of the match. 39 minutes into the match, Gremios's Belchior Loureiro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Falcão Rosado narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 41st minute, Belchior Loureiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Rubinho Batista received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Falcão Rosado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Belchior Loureiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The wind increased when Juarês de Barros made the kick off in the second half. Belchior Loureiro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Falcão Rosado having to make a save. 1-0 became the score in the 58th minute when Chicão Figueiredo elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Chicão Figueiredo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Falcão Rosado having to interfere. In the 63rd minute, Belchior Loureiro left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Gremios fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Inhomirim EC's Falcão Rosado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chicão Figueiredo in the 74th minute of play. Celso Sampaio hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Carlos Alberto de Amaral made an important save on a dangerous shot by Eusébio da Silva in the 81st minute. In the 84th minute of the match Anísio Magalhães sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Carlos Alberto de Amaral skillfully saved the ball. 85 minutes in the game, Juarês de Barros fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Carlos Alberto de Amaral having to interfere. In the 92nd minute, Gremios's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Aírton Botelho fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 97th minute, Chicão Figueiredo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Gremios fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1.
