Seating: 7, VIP seats: 0) Zona's Durval Macedo started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 9th minute, Adamantina's Enio Lima dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. If Enio Lima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Adamantina's goalkeeper Marco Zanette, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 20 minutes of play, Zona's João Carlos Mendonça made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Marco Zanette was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Enio Lima in the 23rd minute of play forced Zona's goalkeeper Carlos Fernando da Rocha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marco Zanette made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Carlos Mendonça in the 30th minute of play. In the 31st match minute, Adamantina was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Reginaldo Medeiros to maneuver through the defense. When Durval Macedo came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Zona fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Durval Macedo couldn't finish the play. If Enio Lima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When João Carlos Mendonça came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Zona fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that João Carlos Mendonça couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Adamantina's zone, Durval Macedo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marco Zanette came out of the goal and Durval Macedo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. João Carlos Mendonça recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mathias Alcântara got free with Carlos Fernando da Rocha in the 48th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Enio Lima was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of Zona booed when Adamantina was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Enio Lima didn't get a good kick on the ball. João Carlos Mendonça sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 63 played minutes Adamantina got a freekick which was hit by Ivo Pontes. A collision led to Zona getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Durval Macedo hit a great ball. In the 64th minute, Durval Macedo fired away a free kick at the goal, but hit it at the wrong angle and it went over the crossbar. In the 66th minute, João Carlos Mendonça got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. João Carlos Mendonça might have been able to make a better finish in the 68th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marco Zanette. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. João Carlos Mendonça ran back to his position shaking his head. Carlos Fernando da Rocha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Enio Lima, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Claudinei Velasco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Zona's Durval Macedo got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 83rd minute, João Carlos Mendonça made a precise shot to the right of Marco Zanette. Adamantina's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. If Mathias Alcântara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Enio Lima came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the Adamantina fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Enio Lima couldn't finish the play. Luís Fábio de Souza charged in rather forcefully in the 91st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Luís Fábio de Souza the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 91 played minutes Zona got a freekick which was hit by Luís Fábio de Souza. Carlos Fernando da Rocha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mathias Alcântara, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. In the 94th minute of the match Adamantina got a corner. Zona's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Patrício Carioca ran over to the corner to take the kick. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Zona eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
