Tapira EC's Magno Paes got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Ulysses Braga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cathe EC's José Paulo Almeida played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Magno Paes in the 23rd minute of play. In the 29th minute, Rodolfo Alvarenga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 31st minute, Ulysses Braga got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Anísio Lago's late challenge caught a Cathe EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Marcos Bueno showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. With a little luck, Cathe EC's José Paulo Almeida got control of the ball when Nestor Mumbach tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Ulysses Braga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marcos Bueno showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ulysses Braga in the 47th minute of the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Magno Paes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. José Paulo Almeida tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ulysses Braga got free with Marcos Bueno in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to Cathe EC getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Germano Gomes hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, Tapira EC's Elder Pombal tried to score from far away in the 64th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 67th minute, Elder Pombal sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Cathe EC's José Paulo Almeida didn't even have to move. Marcos Bueno made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ulysses Braga in the 69th minute. Bernardo de Souza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Bueno having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Tapira EC's Elder Pombal got a free kick in the 77th minute. Cathe EC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nestor Mumbach in the 88th minute of play forced Cathe EC's goalkeeper José Paulo Almeida to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nestor Mumbach fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Paulo Almeida having to interfere. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Tapira EC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Cathe EC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
