Remo Tande started the match with the kick off. Fiori Maia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 2nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Maraa AD's Eliézer Alagoano got control of the ball when Luiz Eduardo de Castro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ulisses Rodrigues charged in rather forcefully in the 9th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ulisses Rodrigues the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 9th minute, Ulisses Rodrigues hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 11th match minute, Maraa AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ulisses Rodrigues to maneuver through the defense. Raimundo Tasso was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 11th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Betão Marquez struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. Eliézer Alagoano didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Neris SS. Neris SS's Luiz Paulo Mello played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Remo Tande in the 16th minute of play. If Betão Marquez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 22ndth minute of the game Remo Tande who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Neris SS's Luiz Paulo Mello was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Luiz Paulo Mello didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Remo Tande went, in the 24th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Betão Marquez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 29th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Neris SS booed when Maraa AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chiquinho Bezerra didn't get a good kick on the ball. Evaristo Figueiredo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Luiz Paulo Mello tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 44th minute, Betão Marquez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 46 minutes, Luiz Eduardo de Castro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Neris SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luiz Eduardo de Castro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Luiz Paulo Mello showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Remo Tande, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. 59 minutes into the game, Adelino de Carvalho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Maraa AD's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Neris SS the free kick. Adelino de Carvalho kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. Evaristo Figueiredo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 69th minute of the match, but Luiz Paulo Mello made a huge save. If Remo Tande had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Neris SS's Luiz Paulo Mello played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Remo Tande in the 75th minute of play. After some careless play in the Maraa AD defense, Betão Marquez kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Eliézer Alagoano. The Maraa AD fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eliézer Alagoano should have stopped the shot. Eliézer Alagoano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luiz Eduardo de Castro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luiz Eduardo de Castro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eliézer Alagoano having to interfere.
