The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute, Chiquinho Bueno got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edmundo de Carvalho got free with Fábio da Cunha in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 21 minutes, Edmundo de Carvalho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ijuhy SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edmundo de Carvalho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Edmundo de Carvalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Emílio Correia charged in rather forcefully in the 32nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Emílio Correia the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Venezuela AD's Emílio Correia got a free kick in the 32nd minute. Edmundo de Carvalho struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Fábio da Cunha didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ijuhy SC. Ijuhy SC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela AD's zone, Eriberto Leal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fábio da Cunha came out of the goal and Eriberto Leal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Maurinho Terra struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Romeu de Sena didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela AD. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Eriberto Leal to make the kick off. Romeu de Sena showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Digo Meira in the 52nd minute of the match. Chiquinho Bueno's late challenge caught a Venezuela AD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Chiquinho Bueno helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 53rd minute of the game. One of Ijuhy SC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Venezuela AD:s goal. In the 55th minute there was a penalty for Venezuela AD. Elano Nascimento stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Romeu de Sena. 0-1. With a little luck, Ijuhy SC's Romeu de Sena got control of the ball when Emílio Correia tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 63rd minute Edmundo de Carvalho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fábio da Cunha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 64th match minute, Ijuhy SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lúcio Damião to maneuver through the defense. Emílio Correia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romeu de Sena having to interfere. Ijuhy SC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 70th minute, when Maurinho Terra scored to the left of an out of position Romeu de Sena, making the score, 0-2. Edmundo de Carvalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Ijuhy SC's Eriberto Leal got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 79 minutes, Valdemar Xavier mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Venezuela AD and the Ijuhy SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 78th minute, one of Venezuela AD:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Venezuela AD. Fábio da Cunha went to the wrong direction when Chiquinho Bueno was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Ijuhy SC's Romeu de Sena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Digo Meira in the 84th minute of play. A collision led to Venezuela AD getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Reginaldo de Alcântara hit a great ball. Eriberto Leal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
