When Durvalino Varela fell near the penalty area in the 3rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Barreiras's protests and gave Durvalino Varela a yellow card for diving instead. Durvalino Varela kicked well hit freekick during the 3rd minute of the match. Valdemar Tavares took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Laércio Romero, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Itaguassu booed when Barreiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Caco de Castro didn't get a good kick on the ball. 14 minutes into the match, Itaguassu's César Marques sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Valdemar Tavares narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 24th minute, Noel Velasco fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Edu Paes, passed just outside the right post. Elivélton Cordeiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edu Paes having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Laércio Romero fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valdemar Tavares having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tiaguinho Madureira during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Itaguassu's Tiaguinho Madureira got a free kick in the 61st minute. In the 63rd minute of the game, Caco de Castro landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Noel Velasco managed to get in a good position for a shot. Barreiras's supporters rose to their feet, but Noel Velasco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edu Paes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Agostinho Mandrak charged in rather forcefully in the 71st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Durvalino Varela missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 73 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Edu Paes right hand side. With his leg Valdemar Tavares managed to avoid a goal in the 75thth minute, when Itaguassu's César Marques fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Laércio Romero's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Valdemar Tavares read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 77th minute of play. César Marques recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 78th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Laércio Romero in the 84th minute of play forced Barreiras's goalkeeper Valdemar Tavares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 87 minutes, César Marques put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Valdemar Tavares. 95 minutes into the match, Barreiras's goal looked a bit too open when Laércio Romero came free, but Valdemar Tavares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Edgard Alcântara kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match. The Itaguassu players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
