After a rather tough play, Goitacazes's Bruninho Alvarenga got a free kick in the 6th minute. Goitacazes's Joel Moura got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Taquarinhas FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 12th minute, when Dedê Leão scored to the left of an out of position Christiano Esteves, making the score, 1-0. A collision led to Goitacazes getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Joel Moura hit a great ball. In the 18thth minute of the game Jarbas Rosado who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Goitacazes's Osmar Coelho was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Christiano Esteves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dedê Leão, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. 22 minutes into the match Antônio Carlos Mendonça climbed in front of goal and pressed up 2-0 in the right cross behind a totally surprised Christiano Esteves. Goitacazes's Osmar Coelho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jarbas Rosado in the 27th minute of play. 28 minutes into the match, Romeu de Godoy had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Osmar Coelho. Goitacazes's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Romeu de Godoy was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Jarbas Rosado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The attack was good, but when Romeu de Godoy in the 34th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jarbas Rosado in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Osmar Coelho saved Goitacazes from getting behind. Osmar Coelho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Romeu de Godoy in the 37th minute of the match. Osmar Coelho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jarbas Rosado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Romeu de Godoy recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
With his leg Osmar Coelho managed to avoid a goal in the 61stth minute, when Taquarinhas FC's Jarbas Rosado fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Osmar Coelho made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jarbas Rosado in the 71st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Goitacazes's zone, Rômulo Pena stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Osmar Coelho came out of the goal and Rômulo Pena tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 76th minute the ball was on its way in behind Taquarinhas FC's goalkeeper Christiano Esteves, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Jarbas Rosado struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Osmar Coelho didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Taquarinhas FC. The supporters of Taquarinhas FC booed when Goitacazes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nilson da Mata didn't get a good kick on the ball. Christiano Esteves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dedê Leão in the 86th minute of play. Christiano Esteves stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Antônio Carlos Mendonça's shot from short distance in the 96th minute. Goitacazes's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
