Spectators: 32 (Terracing: 25, Seating: 7, VIP seats: 0) Dedê Leão might have been able to make a better finish in the 4th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Remo Luz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dedê Leão ran back to his position shaking his head. After 9 played minutes, Santinho's Pedro Zanette shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Osmar Coelho came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Santinho reached it. After a rather tough play, Goitacazes's Joel Moura got a free kick in the 15th minute. If Antônio Carlos Mendonça had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 28th minute, Dedê Leão got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dedê Leão recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dinei Viana sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Dedê Leão managed to get in a good position for a shot. Goitacazes's supporters rose to their feet, but Dedê Leão was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Remo Luz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 39th minute the ball was on its way in behind Goitacazes's goalkeeper Osmar Coelho, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 41st match minute, Goitacazes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joel Moura to maneuver through the defense. 47 minutes into the match, Dinei Viana had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Osmar Coelho. Goitacazes's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dinei Viana was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Dinei Viana made a kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Antônio Carlos Mendonça got free with Remo Luz in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Goitacazes's Osmar Coelho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dinei Viana in the 56th minute of play. Osmar Coelho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dinei Viana, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 59th minute, Dinei Viana got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dinei Viana in the 61st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Osmar Coelho prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Santinho's Dinei Viana got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Antônio Carlos Mendonça recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dinei Viana sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 71st minute, Dedê Leão hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Osmar Coelho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dinei Viana, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Goitacazes getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Bruninho Alvarenga hit a great ball. The supporters of Goitacazes booed when Santinho was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dinei Viana didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Santinho's Pedro Zanette got a free kick in the 79th minute. If Antônio Carlos Mendonça had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 83 minutes, Dinei Viana managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santinho's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dinei Viana was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Bruninho Alvarenga fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Goitacazes's protests and gave Bruninho Alvarenga a yellow card for diving instead. Osmar Coelho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dinei Viana, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. In the 91st minute, Antônio Carlos Mendonça got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Santinho's zone, Antônio Carlos Mendonça stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Remo Luz came out of the goal and Antônio Carlos Mendonça tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Goitacazes's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
