In the 5thth minute of the game Hélio Bezerra who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Araguaya's Sidney Motta was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 6th minute, Joélson Fantini hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Araguaya's Juan Vieira got a good chance for a goal in the 7th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cláudio Messias sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Araguaya getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Thiago Vianna hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, Itaguan's Joélson Fantini tried to score from far away in the 16th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After 18 minutes, Juan Vieira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Araguaya and the Itaguan players grew even worse after the yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Araguaya fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 17th minute. Penalty! The goalkeeper, Sidney Motta, was totally fooled by Itaguan's Joélson Fantini, who 19 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Araguaya's Cláudio Messias got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 32 played minutes Itaguan got a freekick which was hit by Fábio Pena. Cláudio Messias sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Itaguan booed when Araguaya was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Charles Salgado didn't get a good kick on the ball. Itaguan were awarded a corner in the 41th minute after Araguaya's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Joélson Fantini took the corner. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Araguaya's goalie and right to Andrézinho Bueno. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Araguaya's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Dinei Vander sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Sidney Motta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hélio Bezerra in the 54th minute of play. After some careless play in the Araguaya defense, Hélio Bezerra kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sidney Motta. The Araguaya fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sidney Motta should have stopped the shot. Fábio Pena received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Sidney Motta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Hélio Bezerra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. Kiko Aguiar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sidney Motta stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Fábio Pena's shot from short distance in the 74th minute.
