Valdir Reis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlinhos Messias, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Edmílson Negri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valdir Reis having to interfere. 24 minutes into the match, Paru's goalkeeper Valdir Reis had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Victor Rocha. If Igor Fontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Gerno booed when Paru was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Orlando Braga didn't get a good kick on the ball. 38 minutes into the match, Paru's goal looked a bit too open when Carlinhos Messias came free, but Valdir Reis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sydney da Rocha to make the kick off. The audience was convinced that Sydney da Rocha's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cláudio Salgado was relentless in the 53rd minute of the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luís Favoretto during the 75th minute.
