The audience was convinced that Jeremias Martins's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Délio Berger was relentless in the 4th minute of the game. João Adolfo de Brito showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Laércio Catarinense, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Jeremias Martins recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 29th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 31 minutes into the match, Chatelodo's goalkeeper Délio Berger had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sílvio Magalhães. With a little luck, Chatelodo's Délio Berger got control of the ball when Sílvio Magalhães tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 38 played minutes Parnahyba SC got a freekick which was hit by Eurico Alcântara. If Sílvio Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Laércio Catarinense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

A hard shot by Luciano Freitas from long distance, 59 minutes into the match, got João Adolfo de Brito's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Laércio Catarinense in the 66th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck João Adolfo de Brito prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Luís Guerra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Adolfo de Brito having to interfere. Parnahyba SC's João Adolfo de Brito played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Laércio Catarinense in the 75th minute of play. Laércio Catarinense's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but João Adolfo de Brito read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. In the 82ndth minute of the game Laércio Catarinense who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Parnahyba SC's João Adolfo de Brito was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Laércio Catarinense kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving João Adolfo de Brito. That made the score 0-1 in the 86 minute of play. Luís Guerra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. João Adolfo de Brito tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 92 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Chatelodo! The referee gave Parnahyba SC a penalty, 94 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Eliézer Zonta, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Chatelodo's Délio Berger. 1-1. In the 99th minute Laércio Catarinense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but João Adolfo de Brito saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
