The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Paulo Romero managed to get in a good position for a shot. Subida's supporters rose to their feet, but Paulo Romero was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Elias Saraiva breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by João Carlos Vieira during the 16th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Insua getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. João Carlos Vieira hit a great ball. Paulo Romero fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elias Saraiva having to interfere. Ulisses Pombal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Giovanni Aguiar, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. 28 minutes into the game, Insua's Rony Ortiz nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. The corner led Insua's Emerson Prestes to fire away a dangerous shot which Ulisses Pombal despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball.
