Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ronaldinho Gaúcho in the 32nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Maurício Dantas prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, Caracituba EC's Wilton Félix got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Emerson Macedo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 43rd minute of the match, but Maurício Dantas made a huge save. 45 minutes into the game, Manuel Chaves was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Torrinha's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Caracituba EC the free kick. In the 45th minute, Manuel Chaves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Alfredo de Amorim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ulisses Fernandez, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ronaldinho Gaúcho to make the kick off.
