Antônio Carlos Vergílio charged in rather forcefully in the 5th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. José Carlos Loureiro hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. 26 minutes into the match, Uma's goal looked a bit too open when Bruninho Lara came free, but Luiz Alagoano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 29th minute, Adalberto Chaves managed to get in a good position for a shot. Uma's supporters rose to their feet, but Adalberto Chaves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Elivélton Rocha breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Zé Pedro Amaral fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Alagoano having to interfere. In the 37th minute Zé Pedro Amaral shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luiz Alagoano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Zé Pedro Amaral received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Luiz Alagoano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Zé Pedro Amaral sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Malta's Elivélton Rocha played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adalberto Chaves in the 53rd minute of play. In the 55th minute Adalberto Chaves shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elivélton Rocha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Guto Britto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Adalberto Chaves struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Elivélton Rocha didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Uma. After 60 minutes, Guto Britto made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. Malta's Elivélton Rocha tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When Laerte Vander fell near the penalty area in the 63rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Uma's protests and gave Laerte Vander a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Uma's Laerte Vander got a free kick in the 64th minute. In the 65th minute, Malta's Bruninho Lara ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Luiz Alagoano. Luiz Alagoano yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. If Zé Pedro Amaral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Uma's Luiz Alagoano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bruninho Lara in the 72nd minute of play. Délio Britto hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Valdemar Pires took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 75th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Elivélton Rocha. Malta's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Adalberto Chaves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elivélton Rocha having to interfere. Bruninho Lara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A hard shot 97 in the game by Zé Pedro Amaral from a close distance when the talented Luiz Alagoano managed to make a qualified save. Uma's players were relieved.
