When the match had been going on for 7 minutes, Mapia's Erik Almeida got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Juvenal da Costa. David Secco's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Juvenal da Costa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 11th minute of play. If Rogério Lopes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vladimir Batista charged in rather forcefully in the 13th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vladimir Batista the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Paulo de Souza hit a great ball. The attack was good, but when Ciro Ramos in the 22nd minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Fontainha's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lauro Quadros during the 55th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Fontainha booed when Mapia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lauro Quadros didn't get a good kick on the ball. Juvenal da Costa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rogério Lopes in the 63rd minute of the match. In the 65th minute the ball was on its way in behind Fontainha's goalkeeper Juvenal da Costa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Décio Zonta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fontainha's supporters rose to their feet, but Décio Zonta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Renan Salgado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Juvenal da Costa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rogério Lopes, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. Renan Salgado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mapia succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Fontainha had controlled the match.
