Varzea SS's Dionísio de Souza played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zé Augusto Lago in the 52nd minute of play. In the 54th minute, Zé Augusto Lago got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a little luck, Valenca's Afonsinho Sá got control of the ball when Percival Recife tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Nestor Faria came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the Valenca fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nestor Faria couldn't finish the play. Laerte Terra charged in rather forcefully in the 74th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After 87 minutes, Benjamin Rossi mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Varzea SS and the Valenca players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 88 played minutes Varzea SS got a freekick which was hit by Benjamin Rossi. In the 96th match minute, Valenca was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Orlando Zanette to maneuver through the defense. Varzea SS's Douglas Damião got a good chance for a goal in the 98th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Valenca's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
