The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Marcel Saraiva during the 3rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 6th minute, Egídio Secco ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jânio Gaspar was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 13th match minute, Gravatahy was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcel Saraiva to maneuver through the defense. Edmílson Vides, 14 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Gravatahy's Jânio Gaspar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Egídio Secco in the 16th minute of play. A collision led to Gravatahy getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Marcel Saraiva hit a great ball. Jânio Gaspar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Egídio Secco, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. The supporters of Galheiros SS booed when Gravatahy was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Acácio Tinoco didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 42 minutes, Edmílson Vides managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Galheiros SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edmílson Vides was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jefferson Hermes in the 44th minute of play forced Gravatahy's goalkeeper Jânio Gaspar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Artur Marinho to make the kick off. Artur Marinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Zé Carlos Brodel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Basílio Andrade managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gravatahy's supporters rose to their feet, but Basílio Andrade was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Zé Carlos Brodel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Basílio Andrade in the 97th minute of play forced Galheiros SS's goalkeeper Zé Carlos Brodel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Galheiros SS players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
