Isaltino Barreto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Arnaldo Vergílio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the match clock showed 90 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Dário Penha sped through Pinhoes's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Cléber Mumbach. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dário Penha in the 95th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cléber Mumbach prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Arnaldo Vergílio stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gilmar Senna's shot from short distance in the 97th minute.
