When Rubinho Meireles came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Tacare SS fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rubinho Meireles couldn't finish the play. 10 minutes into the match, Tacare SS's Rubinho Meireles sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Durval de Queiroz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Rubinho Meireles sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 17th minute, Rubinho Meireles got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Vitório Viana fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Osvaldo Tavares having to interfere. The supporters of Tacare SS booed when Montesina SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulo José Cabral didn't get a good kick on the ball. After recieving a nice pass, Tacare SS's Duarte de Toledo tried to score from far away in the 22nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Victor Prestes hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. When Montesina SC's Vitório Viana, in the 32nd minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Montesina SC. Zé Sena could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Osvaldo Tavares made a huge save. 44 minutes into the match, Tacare SS's goalkeeper Osvaldo Tavares had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tadeu Trancoso. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Rubinho Meireles managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tacare SS's supporters rose to their feet, but Rubinho Meireles was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Durval de Queiroz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rubinho Meireles was the one to do the kick off. In the 52ndth minute of the game Rubinho Meireles who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Montesina SC's Durval de Queiroz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Duarte de Toledo made a great header on Tacare SS's corner, it was just that Montesina SC's Durval de Queiroz managed to reach the ball for a save. Osvaldo Tavares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zé Sena in the 59th minute of play. Victor Prestes hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. Osvaldo Tavares stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Vitório Viana's shot from short distance in the 69th minute. Victor Prestes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tacare SS's Osvaldo Tavares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vitório Viana in the 75th minute of play. After 78 played minutes Montesina SC got a freekick which was hit by Zé Sena. When Zé Sena came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Montesina SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zé Sena couldn't finish the play. In a very dangerous position, a player in Tacare SS fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 84th minute. Penalty! A collision led to Tacare SS getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Mané Severo hit a great ball. Zé Sena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rubinho Meireles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 98th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Durval de Queiroz having to interfere. Tacare SS's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
