The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 19 minutes into the game, Waldir de Souza was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Capivara's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cumanda the free kick. A collision led to Capivara getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Waldir de Souza hit a great ball. In the 26th match minute, Cumanda was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Duarte Sarmento to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Cumanda's zone, Waldir de Souza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carlos Alberto Cruz came out of the goal and Waldir de Souza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Waldir de Souza got free with Carlos Alberto Cruz in the 37th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Frédson Dias made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Júlio Neves in the 39th minute of play. Fred Berger charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Fred Berger the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. An unexpectedly hard shot by João Adolfo Leão in the 43rd minute of play forced Cumanda's goalkeeper Carlos Alberto Cruz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. João Adolfo Leão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Alberto Cruz having to interfere.

The wind increased when Waldir Gomes made the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute of the match, Waldir Gomes tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Frédson Dias saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. 57 minutes into the game, Júlio Neves cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Frédson Dias was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Waldir de Souza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Capivara's Frédson Dias played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Waldir Gomes in the 66th minute of play. Carlos Alberto Cruz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Adolfo Leão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 73 minutes into the match, João Adolfo Leão notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Cumanda's Carlos Alberto Cruz. Carlos Alberto Cruz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Júlio Neves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frédson Dias having to interfere. With a little luck, Capivara's Frédson Dias got control of the ball when Júlio Neves tried to sneak it across the goal line. Capivara's Frédson Dias proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 89th minute of the match, managed to save Capivara from getting a goal against them. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Waldir Gomes in the 91st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Frédson Dias saved Capivara from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Capivara's zone, Júlio Neves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Frédson Dias came out of the goal and Júlio Neves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 95th minute, Waldir Gomes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match had gone on for 97 minutes, Waldir Gomes put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Frédson Dias.
