The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Denílson Valle charged in rather forcefully in the 8th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Denílson Valle the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Capibaribe booed when Climerio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Denílson Valle didn't get a good kick on the ball. Climerio's Rodolfo Chaves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Carlos de Barros in the 10th minute of play. In the 12th minute, Renan Freitas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rodolfo Chaves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Carlos de Barros, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. Denílson Valle kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. 21 minutes into the match, Climerio's goal looked a bit too open when José Carlos de Barros came free, but Rodolfo Chaves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cícero Maranhense's late challenge caught a Capibaribe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cícero Maranhense helped the player get up and apologised. In the 23rd minute, Cícero Maranhense hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. João Pedro Chaves charged in rather forcefully in the 27th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed João Pedro Chaves the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 28 played minutes, Capibaribe's Marcinho Araújo shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rodolfo Chaves came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Capibaribe reached it. After a rather tough play, Climerio's Denílson Valle got a free kick in the 34th minute. Flávio Coutinho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Felipe Matorin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Márcio Proença, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match had gone on for 46 minutes, José Carlos de Barros took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Rodolfo Chaves to make any attempt to save it. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The audience was convinced that Márcio Proença's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Felipe Matorin was relentless in the 60th minute of the game. After 61 played minutes Capibaribe got a freekick which was hit by Ian de Almeida. Márcio Proença's late challenge caught a Capibaribe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Márcio Proença helped the player get up and apologised. In the 68th minute Márcio Proença shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Felipe Matorin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Capibaribe's Raí Silva got a free kick in the 68th minute. José Carlos de Barros scored 2-0 in the 70th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Rodolfo Chaves, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Flávio Coutinho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Márcio Proença received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Felipe Matorin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 80 minutes into the match, Capibaribe's goal looked a bit too open when Márcio Proença came free, but Felipe Matorin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Felipe Matorin stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Márcio Proença's shot from short distance in the 82nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Carlos de Barros in the 87th minute of play forced Climerio's goalkeeper Rodolfo Chaves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 90th minute of the match Capibaribe got a corner. Climerio's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Marcinho Araújo ran over to the corner to take the kick. Cícero Maranhense thought of kicking away a contribution in front of goal but messed it up so badly that the ball went to the right of an astonished Rodolfo Chaves, a very annoying self made goal in the 90th minute which led to 3-0. If José Carlos de Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aloísio Peres received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Rodolfo Chaves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Climerio's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
