The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 6 minutes, Eriberto Saldanha mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Brigue AD and the Pedrao players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Brigue AD getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Eriberto Saldanha hit a great ball. After having played for 11 minutes, Agenor Melo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Pedrao's supporters crossed their fingers, but Agenor Melo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 12th match minute, Brigue AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eriberto Saldanha to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Brigue AD's zone, Jaime Pontes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gernando Cavalcante came out of the goal and Jaime Pontes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jaime Pontes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Gernando Cavalcante made a huge save. When Pedrao's Agenor Melo in the 24th minute got a chance for a shot 24th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Brigue AD's goalie prevented a goal. Adelino Neves's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Donatello Massa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. In the 34th match minute, Pedrao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Doni Bastos to maneuver through the defense. Gernando Cavalcante showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Agenor Melo in the 40th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agenor Melo in the 40th minute of play forced Brigue AD's goalkeeper Gernando Cavalcante to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jaime Pontes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gernando Cavalcante having to interfere. Jaime Pontes might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gernando Cavalcante. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jaime Pontes ran back to his position shaking his head. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Adelino Neves's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Donatello Massa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 67th minute of play. After 97 minutes of play Pedrao's Tarcisio Linares was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of Brigue AD booed when Pedrao was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 98 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tarcisio Linares didn't get a good kick on the ball. Adelino Neves received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 99th minute. Donatello Massa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
