Gramado's Virgílio Quaresma played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Túlio Dracena in the 32nd minute of play. After 33 played minutes Gramado got a freekick which was hit by Juan Goiano. Dito Amorim made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Américo Guerra sent off a good shot on target. If Américo Guerra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gilberto Medeiros to make the kick off. Dito Amorim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Américo Guerra, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Túlio Dracena in the 59th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Virgílio Quaresma saved Gramado from getting behind. Dito Amorim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilberto Medeiros in the 66th minute of play. In the 67th match minute, Navegantes AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fred Varela to maneuver through the defense. Dito Amorim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Américo Guerra, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Virgílio Quaresma made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Túlio Dracena in the 76th minute of play. In the 79th minute, Túlio Dracena fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Virgílio Quaresma, passed just outside the right post. Virgílio Quaresma made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Basílio Cunha sent off a good shot on target. After a defensive mix-up in Gramado's zone, Túlio Dracena stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Virgílio Quaresma came out of the goal and Túlio Dracena tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Basílio Cunha came up free with the goalie in the 98th minute, the Navegantes AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Basílio Cunha couldn't finish the play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Gramado fans cheered their team off the field, for while Navegantes AD had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
