After a rather tough play, Murungaba's Bernardo Lopez got a free kick in the 7th minute. Codajas's Adriano Tinoco suffered a sore thigh after 12 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Amauri Fonseca's late challenge caught a Codajas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Amauri Fonseca helped the player get up and apologised. After 13 played minutes Murungaba got a freekick which was hit by Amauri Fonseca. 15 minutes into the game, Bernardo Lopez was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Murungaba's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Codajas the free kick. The supporters of Codajas booed when Murungaba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bernardo Lopez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jefferson Furtado didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hugo Matos went, in the 25th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. After a defensive mix-up in Murungaba's zone, João Augusto Miranda stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Egídio Cardoso came out of the goal and João Augusto Miranda tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Codajas getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Diego Mendonça hit a great ball. Telmo Maranhense received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Egídio Cardoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Murungaba's zone, Ciro Netto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Egídio Cardoso came out of the goal and Ciro Netto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 37 minutes, Osvaldo Vianna mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Murungaba and the Codajas players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 37 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Murungaba! The goalkeeper, Egídio Cardoso, was totally fooled by Codajas's Manolo Sá, who 38 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. After some careless play in the Murungaba defense, Telmo Maranhense kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Egídio Cardoso. The Murungaba fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Egídio Cardoso should have stopped the shot. Virgílio Gonçalves struck a weak shot in the 48th minute. Jefferson Furtado didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Murungaba.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Telmo Maranhense to make the kick off. Codajas's Telmo Maranhense got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Aírton Matos charged in rather forcefully in the 62nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Aírton Matos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Codajas's Aírton Matos got a free kick in the 62nd minute. Codajas's Ciro Netto got his second yellow card of the match in the 64th minute. The referee ordered Ciro Netto off the ground. After some fancy dribbling in the 66th minute, Virgílio Gonçalves managed to get in a good position for a shot. Murungaba's supporters rose to their feet, but Virgílio Gonçalves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jefferson Furtado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Telmo Maranhense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Codajas's defense didn't have a chance, in the 73rd minute, when Virgílio Gonçalves scored to the left of an out of position Jefferson Furtado, making the score, 2-2. Murungaba's Hermínio Lopez shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 78th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Jefferson Furtado but with some difficulty. When Aírton Matos was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 82 minutes had been played. In the 82nd minute, Aírton Matos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Egídio Cardoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Telmo Maranhense in the 87th minute of the match. When Amauri Fonseca came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Murungaba fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Amauri Fonseca couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Telmo Maranhense in the 91st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Egídio Cardoso prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Telmo Maranhense came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Codajas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Telmo Maranhense couldn't finish the play. In the 94th minute the ball was on its way in behind Murungaba's goalkeeper Egídio Cardoso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Telmo Maranhense struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Egídio Cardoso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Codajas. Murungaba succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Codajas had controlled the match.
