Canelas FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Piauna EC the free kick. Aílton Carneiro hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. Edmundo Nascimento showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfredão Recife in the 9th minute of the match. A collision led to Piauna EC getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Gualter Trigo hit a great ball. Piauna EC's Edmundo Nascimento played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dorival Peres in the 13th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredão Recife in the 14th minute of play forced Piauna EC's goalkeeper Edmundo Nascimento to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dorival Peres hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. 18 minutes into the game, Enéas Albuquerque recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Washington Guimarães. Enéas Albuquerque showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 22nd minute of the game. One of Canelas FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Piauna EC:s goal. In the 28th minute Dorival Peres shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edmundo Nascimento saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Teodoro Donatello's late challenge caught a Piauna EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Teodoro Donatello helped the player get up and apologised. In the 28th minute, one of Canelas FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Canelas FC. Durvalino Vasconcelos shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Washington Guimarães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gualter Trigo, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. André Luiz Leão kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. In the 35th minute, Durvalino Vasconcelos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Edmundo Nascimento made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredão Recife in the 37th minute of play. A collision led to Piauna EC getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Betinho Vieira hit a great ball. Piauna EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Canelas FC the free kick. After 41 played minutes Piauna EC got a freekick which was hit by Durval Lara. After having played for 48 minutes, Durvalino Vasconcelos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Piauna EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Durvalino Vasconcelos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Durvalino Vasconcelos was the one to do the kick off. Edmundo Nascimento stood somewhat misplaced when Dorival Peres came free in front of goal and shot 2-1 to the left of him in the 55 minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 58 minutes into the game, when Gualter Trigo put in a rough tackle. After a rather tough play, Piauna EC's Gualter Trigo got a free kick in the 59th minute. Piauna EC's Edmundo Nascimento played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Duarte Quirino in the 60th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dorival Peres got free with Edmundo Nascimento in the 61st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 62 minutes, Durvalino Vasconcelos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Piauna EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Durvalino Vasconcelos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Agostinho de Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Agostinho de Barros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Washington Guimarães having to interfere. Canelas FC made a substitution. Hélder Andrade replaced Tostão Cardoso. If Enéas Albuquerque had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Durvalino Vasconcelos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 77th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Durvalino Vasconcelos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Washington Guimarães having to interfere. The supporters of Canelas FC booed when Piauna EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Genílson Valladares didn't get a good kick on the ball. Piauna EC's Enéas Albuquerque got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 91 minutes, Enéas Albuquerque managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Piauna EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Enéas Albuquerque was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 94 minutes into the game, Luís de Amaral was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Piauna EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Canelas FC the free kick. Alfredão Recife sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee ended the match the Piauna EC players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
