With a couple of smart ball manuevers Erik Secco in the 5th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paulo José Bastos saved Cruzeiro Esporte Clube from getting behind. 9 minutes into the match, Tottenham's goalkeeper Otávio de Barros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Josué Santos. Otávio de Barros made a fantastic save in the 9th minute, when Erivaldo Aguiar sent off a good shot on target. The crowd rose to their feet as Zé Mendes kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Otávio de Barros. That made the score 1-0 in the 11 minute of play. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube made a substitution. Délio Bezerra replaced Diamantino Ribeiro. João Adolfo Ferraz hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. Otávio de Barros made a fantastic save in the 17th minute, when Erivaldo Aguiar sent off a good shot on target. Tottenham's Otávio de Barros proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Tottenham from getting a goal against them. Diamantino de Moraes was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 21 minutes into the match. The supporters of Cruzeiro Esporte Clube booed when Tottenham was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Diamantino de Moraes didn't get a good kick on the ball. 26 minutes into the game, João Adolfo Ferraz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Paulo José Bastos was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. When the match clock showed 35 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Zé Mendes sped through Tottenham's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Otávio de Barros. Josué Santos hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. 39 minutes into the game, Gualter de Castro threw the ball into play from the sideline. Tottenham's Haroldo Vergílio quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. An unexpectedly hard shot by João Adolfo Ferraz in the 39th minute of play forced Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Paulo José Bastos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 44 minutes, João Adolfo Ferraz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tottenham's supporters crossed their fingers, but João Adolfo Ferraz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tottenham's Otávio de Barros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Josué Santos in the 47th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

João Adolfo Ferraz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Paulo José Bastos having to make a save. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Zé Mendes got a good chance for a goal in the 58th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Otávio de Barros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erivaldo Aguiar in the 60th minute of play. Otávio de Barros didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Erivaldo Aguiar went, in the 66th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. 70 minutes into the match, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Josué Santos sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Otávio de Barros narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 83 minutes into the game, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Zé Mendes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Otávio de Barros made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-1. Renatinho Mesquita hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. In the 88th minute, João Adolfo Ferraz sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Paulo José Bastos didn't even have to move. Josué Santos hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. João Adolfo Ferraz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Paulo José Bastos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tottenham's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
