The audience thought a goal was coming when Marquinhos Cearense got free with Giovani Borges in the 47th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vágner Koehler stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Cleiton Sá struck a weak shot in the 51st minute. Giovani Borges didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Santos. After having played for 58 minutes, Vágner Koehler managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vágner Koehler was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Santos's Vágner Koehler got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 65th minute, Vágner Koehler left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Santos fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Vágner Koehler in the 69th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Giovani Borges prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Vágner Koehler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Marquinhos Cearense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the Messejana defense, Vágner Koehler kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Giovani Borges. The Messejana fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Giovani Borges should have stopped the shot. When Marquinhos Cearense came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Santos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marquinhos Cearense couldn't finish the play. Vágner Koehler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giovani Borges having to interfere. In the 85th minute Marquinhos Cearense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Giovani Borges saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Giovani Borges made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vágner Koehler in the 86th minute of play. 87 minutes into the game, Vágner Koehler cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Giovani Borges was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jerônimo Vieira during the 91st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Jerônimo Vieira kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. 94 minutes into the game, Cleiton Sá was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Santos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Messejana the free kick. A collision led to Santos getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Cleiton Sá hit a great ball. When the referee ended the match the Santos players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
