An unexpectedly hard shot by Aílton Pitta in the 4th minute of play forced Crubixais SS's goalkeeper Fred Alvarenga to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 7th match minute, Grêmio was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Diguinho Coelho to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 8 minutes, Eugênio Soares managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Crubixais SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eugênio Soares was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aílton Pitta in the 10th minute of play forced Crubixais SS's goalkeeper Fred Alvarenga to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Crubixais SS getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Luiz Paulo Dias hit a great ball. In the 18th minute Wellington Aguiar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fred Alvarenga saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wellington Aguiar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Aílton Pitta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Fred Alvarenga tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aílton Pitta in the 37th minute of play forced Crubixais SS's goalkeeper Fred Alvarenga to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 38th match minute, Crubixais SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adalberto Trigo to maneuver through the defense. Fred Alvarenga stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Wellington Aguiar's shot from short distance in the 40th minute. Sílvio Luís Quadros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eugênio Soares in the 41st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wellington Aguiar in the 44th minute of play forced Crubixais SS's goalkeeper Fred Alvarenga to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Crubixais SS's goalkeeper Fred Alvarenga, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Eugênio Soares to make the kick off. Fred Alvarenga made a fantastic save in the 54th minute, when Wellington Aguiar sent off a good shot on target. Wellington Aguiar received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Fred Alvarenga came out and tried to block the shot, but Wellington Aguiar slotted it home off the left post making it 0-1 in the 54th minute. A collision led to Crubixais SS getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Cássio de Amaral hit a great ball. 60 minutes into the game, Diguinho Coelho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Grêmio's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Crubixais SS the free kick. If Eugênio Soares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 70 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Grêmio! In the 71st minute there was a penalty for Crubixais SS. Luiz Paulo Dias stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Sílvio Luís Quadros. 2-1. A collision led to Grêmio getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Rafa Pombal hit a great ball. Hernani da Fonseca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 82 minutes into the match, Grêmio's Aílton Pitta sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fred Alvarenga narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Grêmio's Sílvio Luís Quadros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hernani da Fonseca in the 83rd minute of play. After having played for 90 minutes, Wellington Aguiar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grêmio's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wellington Aguiar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Aílton Pitta struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Fred Alvarenga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio. In the 93rd minute, Dário Mendonça hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Grêmio's zone, Eugênio Soares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sílvio Luís Quadros came out of the goal and Eugênio Soares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Eugênio Soares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sílvio Luís Quadros having to interfere.
