Fred Alvarenga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dalmo Sousa, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. Eugênio Soares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Giovani Meira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 13th minute, Jonathan Bezerra got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Kléberson Donato fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Placa's protests and gave Kléberson Donato a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Placa getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Kléberson Donato hit a great ball. Fred Alvarenga took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dalmo Sousa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 28th play minute Maurício Veloso came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Fred Alvarenga. 1-0. Maurício Veloso recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Maurício Veloso could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 38th minute of the match, but Fred Alvarenga made a huge save. In the 42nd minute, Eugênio Soares got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 47th minute Dalmo Sousa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fred Alvarenga saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dalmo Sousa was the one to do the kick off.
