After 15 played minutes Santa Cruz got a freekick which was hit by Fernão do Vale. When Beto da Rocha came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Santa Cruz fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Beto da Rocha couldn't finish the play. Nuno de Sena hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. After having played for 23 minutes, Beto da Rocha managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santa Cruz's supporters crossed their fingers, but Beto da Rocha was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 25th minute, Magno Messias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If José Pedro Miranda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Renan Jacinto charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Renan Jacinto the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Akotipa booed when Santa Cruz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Renan Jacinto didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 39th match minute, Santa Cruz was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Orlando de Sena to maneuver through the defense. 40 minutes into the game, Bebeto Cearense cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-2. Benjamim de Barros was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Eugênio Linhares hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. In the 44th minute, one of Akotipa:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Akotipa. In the 46th minute there was a penalty for Santa Cruz. Erik Catarinense stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Christiano Arósio. 3-2. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

José Pedro Miranda received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Benjamim de Barros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
